Cassilly: How I Got To College
20 minutes / documentary / 2002 / USA

Barriers abound in opportunities for post-secondary education for young adults with significant intellectual disabilities. Cassilly: How I Got To College is a compelling story of a young woman who has overcome barriers and whose successful participation in a community college has enhanced the quality of her life.

Sara Banks - director
Sara has been producing independent videos since the early 70's when video was shot on black & white portapaks and public access was first made available to the community. She further developed her skills by getting a BA at San Francisco State University in Broadcast Arts and a Masters in film production at UCLA. Her programs range from a feature length dramatic film about AIDS produced in '82, several news magazine shows for cable television, award winning documentaries and training videos. She is currently working at the Center on Disabilities Studies at the University of Hawaii, developing a video curriculum that promotes the quality of life for persons with disabilities. It has been her life's work for her videos to be a voice for people who are forgotten or misrepresented in mainstream media.
