Two
kids on a merry-go-round, one is "normal," the other has Down
syndrome. As you get to know their daily activities, you conclude the
obvious, but the ending is a significant surprise.
About
the film from the director:
The idea of the carousel was to work around the analogy of life that
goes up and down. A balance between people: nobody is better than anyone
else. Robert Flaherty's "Men of Aran" inspired the film's
visual concept. Flaherty was the first documentarian of the silent film
"the Bands". I was watching his work while listening to Radiohead's
song, Fake Plastic Tree, and it all came together (he is actually
responsible for Radiohead's breakthrough in Brazilian radio stations).
The surprising idea at the end appealed to me a great deal, and the
light bulbs gave it a certain warmth and depth I was looking for.
