Program 5
Saturday, April 28
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

NYU Cantor Film Center

A touching portrayal of two pairs of brothers living outside of Kiruna, the northernmost city of Sweden, above the North Arctic Circle. Both pairs have chosen to live together for most of their lives, but for different reasons.

Edmund Sunna promised his mother that, if it were possible, he would never abandon his mentally handicapped brother, Fredrik, to community care. He gave up his way of life and devoted himself to his brother, who he has been looking after for more than 20 years.

Bertil and Ivar Viertotak live in an inaccessible area, far from civilisation. Everyday they have to fetch firewood and water since there is no electricity or roads nearby. Old age is creeping up on Ivar and they realise that they must leave their isolated lives to move to more modern surroundings.

Since the film has been made both Fredrik and Ivar have passed away.
