Mohammad
Shirvani – filmmaker
Mohammad
was born in Tehran in 1973 in to a middle-class and religious
family who did not approve of the cinema. In his childhood,
he took to painting and drama; it is beyond doubt that his
numerous appearances on theatrical stages changed the fate
of the shy and reserved teenager into an outgoing and active
public figure.
His
father, an army man, enrolled him in the military academy
to avoid the compulsory draft during the war, but the enrollment
meant that Mohammad had to work for the Army for a period
of 10 years. He ran away from the military school and after
7 years of compulsory work for the army, he made his first
short film. Since that time he has been pursuing a professional
career as a filmmaker and producer.
In the
year 2003, he and his brother Ali Shirvani, founded the
Shirvani Bros. Pictures
and started making films on their own.
His
filmography since 1998 includes six short films, one experimental
feature film, one long documentary, and one Pop Art video.
He has participated in over 70 international film festivals
and has received 26 National and 6 International awards.
